For more than a decade University of Asia Pacific has been functioning as a unique institution of higher learning. Its reputation has grown rapidly, as it has already achieved eminence above most of the seats of higher learning of the country. Its commitment to excellence is demonstrated through the quality of its academic services and its invaluable contribution to learning. With its eminent administrators and excellent faculty members it is assuming a leading role in the educational arena of Bangladesh.

University of Asia Pacific (UAP) was established in 1996 as a private university under the Private University Act 1992, with a vision to enhance the opportunities for higher education in Bangladesh. Its curriculum has been approved by The University Grants Commission of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The university started its operation, i.e. the first semester of classes, in 1996, and offered four-year bachelor degree programs in Computer Science and Technology and Business Administration only. Now UAP offers undergraduate programs in Architecture, Business Administration, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and Pharmacy.

UAP has been sponsored by University of Asia Pacific Foundation, a non-profit, non-commercial organization based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The principal aim of the Foundation is to promote human and social development through, inter alia, improved educational opportunities, innovative educational programs relevant to the needs of an emerging society and to develop skills, knowhow and awareness of the youth through appropriate institutional means.

Mission

UAP mission is to offer best possible education to our young generation. Towards the mission, UAP continues to develop a sustained culture of ascending to a top-tier of vibrant academic environment; maintain and foster well qualified faculty, provide adequate research support for cutting-edge research in-house and in collaboration national and international peers; update curricula to keep up with advancing trend in science and technology, use state-of-the-art best practices in teaching-learning and modern facilities in laboratories and libraries; and provide other supports in aid to students becoming competent graduates with their potential fully realized and personality well-developed for joining the global forces in making the future of society in changing world.

A government approved private university established by the University of Asia Pacific Foundation (UAPF). University of Asia Pacific (UAP) was established in 1996 as a private university under the Private University act 1992, with a vision to enhance the opportunities for higher education in Bangladesh. The Foundation (UAPF) has been established by a group of eminent educationists, industrialists, and administrators who share the same vision and social commitments. Formerly the Foundtion was named as Foundation of Human and Social Development. UAP is the first project of the Foundation aimed at realizing these noble goals. UAPF is a non-profit, non-commercial foundation based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The principal aim of the Foundation is to promote human and social development through, inter alia, improved educational opportunities, innovative educational programs relevant to the needs of an emerging society and to develop skills, know-how and awareness of the youth through appropriate institutional grooming. The Foundation was setup in September 1995. Late Professor Fazlul Halim Chowdhury, an eminent scholar and former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, wasthe first chairperson of the foundation.
 

Late Mr. Hedayet Ahmed, the founder VC of UAP, dedicated all his efforts to establish a center for higher learning in the country, which eventually culminated to establishing UAP in 1996. Being a graduate of Oxford and Harvard University, and also throughout his successful career of being a civil servant and a diplomat serving as Secretary of Ministries as well as Ambassador of Bangladesh to Egypt, Mr. Hedayat understood the necessity of quality education in tertiary level and the scope beyond governmental institutes. With his visionary leadership and untiring zeal, he guided the whole UAP team to place it amongst the finest centers of higher learning in Bangladesh. An eminent personality with strong will and determination, he fought to establish the university and advanced it through all odds of time and circumstances to bring where it stands today. Even during his last days, fighting against cancer, he continued to give directions to the university authority about its plans and programs. Mr. Hedayat Ahmed breathed his last on June 6, 2001.

First Seminar Talk at UAP was given by Professor Sayyed Misbah Deen, Director of DAKE Center and Professor of Computer Science at the University of Keele, Staffordshire, UK on "AN Overview of a Computational Model for Cooperating Agents" on 1998. First National Seminar session organized by UAP was on "Arsenic Contamination in Bangladesh: Strategies for Social Action Program and Creation of Public Awareness" on March 1998. The Seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, State Minister for Planning and Science and Technology, Govt. of Bangladesh and participated by the World Bank, Dhaka Community Hospital, Martinets, Hoffman La Roche and many other organizations. First International Seminar organized by UAP was on "Sea Level Rise and Sustainable Coastal Management". National Oceanographic & Maritime Institute (NAOMI) was the joint organizer along with UAP. Local and Foreign delegates from USA and SAARC countries attended the seminar. The seminar was followed by a field trip to Cox's Bazar to further strengthen the topics discussed in the seminar.

First National Scale Community Work organized by UAP was a month long "Saline Preparation Program" for flood affected people in 1998. The program ran from August15 to September 15 and was jointly organized by Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Society. Honorable Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Bangladesh, Mr. Salahuddin Yusuf Inaugurated the program which at the end of the sessions produced one lakh packets of saline and one lakh water purifying tablets prepared by the students of UAP. The affected people of the devastating flood in 1998 required even more support which UAP authority recognized and organized 1500 packets of relief goods and purified water can. The faculty members led the students' team from the front.

By the initiative of UGC under “Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project”, various External Peer Reviews Teams (consisting of International Quality Expert, Subject Specialist and UGC Expert) have awarded all Bachelor Programs of University of Asia Pacific the grading of “Very Good” individually.
