  • Research/design Involvements by the Department of Architecture

 

  • Memorial design and research of Barisal Burial Ground and torture cell

Barisal City Corporation along with Muktijoddha Jadughar Bangladesh asked UAP Dept. of Architecture with its capacity to guide the restoration of the dilapidated structures that have significant historic value in the context of the Liberation war of Bangladesh. The two buildings, along with a surviving wartime bunker and a historic bridge that was used as an execution site by the Pak Army during the war, turned into a more rigorous study besides their restorations to the onsite memorial design.   

 

  • Wari-Bateshwar documentation

The Wari-Bateshwar excavation team under the able guidance of Dr. Sufi Mustafizur Rahman sought support from UAP Architecture Department for documenting an archaeological artifact in Wari Bateshwar excavation site. Volunteering to this call, a team of UAP architecture students and faculties made the documentation for the archaeological team.

 

  • Historic Building documentation

With affiliation to the Archeological Department of the Govt. of Bangladesh, the UAP team comprising of Faculty members and students conducted series of documentation research of selected historic buildings. The results of the documentation resulted into the formulation of restoration plans for the projects. Dr. Abu Sayeed, Head of the Department led the project.

 

  • Research and Study material development on “Bungalow, the influence of a Bengal hut in the global scenario”

Part of the collaboration research initiated by Europe South Asia Maritime Heritage Project with partnerships of eight universities from India, Portugal, France, UK, Nederland, and Bangladesh, UAP Dept. of Architecture focused on the architectural intervention of Bengal to the global architectural style in form of Bungalow. The research culminated in making a documentary on the subject matter. published by the European Commission, New Delhi.

 

  • Research on improving rickshaw design

A study and research was conducted by Ar. Naushad Ehsanul Haque, Assistant Professor of Architecture, UAP on improving the design of the rickshaw, a vehicle unique to Bangladesh. The project was funded by a private organization as an idea project as well as by some of the faculty members

 

  • Research on portable shelter for disaster-prone areas

A study and research was conducted by Ar. Naushad Ehsanul Haque, Assistant Professor of Architecture, UAP on portable shelter for disaster-prone areas. UAP architecture department provided support for this foreign-funded initiative.

 

  • Research and booklet publication on low-cost housing

UAP team comprising fourth-year students and faculty members conducted a term-long exercise on low-cost housing focusing on selected slum areas of Dhaka with the collaboration of research institute "Center of Urban Studies, Bangladesh". The study results were documented in a booklet publication and the findings were presented to the Planning Commission of Bangladesh.
