On Tuesday 9 March, 2021, at the Convention Hall of Garden Inn Restaurant of Barisal City, a Focused Group Discussion was held as a part of academic legal research titled “Defaulted Loans & Abusing Legal Process to Avoid Repayment: Analyzing the Banking Laws of Bangladesh”. This program was organized under supervision of Law and Human Rights Department of the University of Asia Pacific. The research is being funded by the Institution of Energy, Environment, Research and Development (IEERD), UAP.
AZM Shahiduzzaman Khan, Senior Lawyer and Former President District Bar Association, Barisal was present as the Chief Guest on the occasion. Md. Rafiqul Islam Khokon, Panel Mayor of Barisal City Corporation and General Secretary of District Bar Association, Barisal as Special Guest. Md. Kamrul Islam, AGM, Basic Bank Barisal Division was also present on the occasion as special guest. This program was chaired by Md. Firoz Mahmud Khan, Senior Advocate Bangladesh Supreme Court and former President District Bar Association Barisal. A group of Lawyers, Academics, Representative of Banks, Businessmen, Apprentice Lawyers and students were present in the seminar.
Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Associate Professor, Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific; Md. Saleh Akram, Assistant Professor; Ms. Azizun Nahar, Assistant Professor; Sheikh Noman Parvez, Research Fellow of the Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific are associate with the study. The study will discuss the problems of non-recovery of defaulted loans in the banking sector and discuss the legal dilemma regarding this.
On 30 September 2020, Banglalink's Flagship Digital Ideation Competition, Ennovators 4.0 held at UAP. Banglalink arranges this talent hunt competition every year for the university students to provide a platform to rethink, restart and recreate digital ideation. This virtual roadshow was organized by Banglalink, in association with DSW and Entrepreneurship and Career Development Club, UAP. Around 100 students from all the departments of UAP participated in the webinar.
Ms. Aurthima Naaznoor, Talent Management, Lead Specialist, Banglalink began the show describing the meaning, purpose, awards and benefits of the competition. Mr. Abdullah Al Nahian, Strategic Assistant, Banglalink described the process of registration for the competition and the method of competing along with the advantages of using the possible elements to win. The most interesting part was students can always register through playing a game Named “C Factor”. They also arranged a quiz competition. Thus the webinar came to an end and the students of all departments felt motivated for further involvement in these kinds of competitions. Mr. Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW, UAP was also present to encourage students’ participation.
On 2 October 2020, UAP Film Club organized a virtual Film Festival. The festival showcased 12 short films which were prepared by the students of UAP.
Mr. CM Shafi Sami, Chairman, Board of Trustees, UAP attended the program for some time and sent a video message wishing the event a success. Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Acting VC, UAP also attended the program.
The theme of the film festival was COVID-19 pandemic and all the short films were related to different perspectives of the current pandemic situation. The film makers, beautifully, addressed recent issues, including psychological impact, socio-economic crisis of Bangladeshi expatriates’ due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Another purpose of this festival was to provide a much-needed relaxation to the students at a time of a pandemic that is causing serious mental stress and strain. The program drew much attention and many students from different departments of UAP attended the program and watched the films online. The program was also telecasted later on UAP Facebook page.
At the end of the festival, Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury thanked everyone who was associated with the successful arrangement of the festival. Later on, Mohaimanul Islam, President, UAP Film Club ended the program with a vote of thanks.
Among others, the program was attended by Mr. Abdullah Al Farabi, Lecturer, Department of Civil Engineering and Adviser of UAP Film Club and Mr. Md. Tarek Khan, AD, DSW, UAP.
The English Language Club, University of Asia Pacific organized an online ‘Extempore Speech Competition’ on September 11, 2020, in association with the Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW). Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Treasurer and Director, DSW graced the event as the chief guest.
A total of fifteen students from different departments of the university participated in the competition. Ms. Afroza Aziz Suchana, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Adviser of the club picked up the topics randomly for the participants. Each contestant talked for three minutes. Tasneem Mahmood from the Department of English secured the first position. Mohammed Ashraful Bari from the Department of Law and Human Rights and Shajedur Rahman from the Department of Business Administration secured the second and third positions respectively.
The contestants were judged on the parameters like grammatical accuracy, pronunciation, confidence and overall presentation. Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Associate Professor, Department of Law & Human Rights, Mr. Mohammed Farman Ullah Bhuiyan, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Ms. Arpita Haque, Lecturer, Department of English were present as the adjudicators.
At the end of the event, Air Cdre (Retd) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury congratulated the winners and all the participants. Among others, the programme was attended by Ms, Arjumand Ara, Head, Department of English and Mr. Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW. The whole session was moderated by the Adviser of the English Language Club Ms. Afroza Aziz Suchana.
University of Asia Pacific observed National Mourning Day on 15th August 2020 over the online platform to pay homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 45th martyrdom anniversary.
The discussion was presided over by Professor Dr M. R. Kabir, Acting Vice-Chancellor, UAP.
A short video message was delivered by Mr. C. M. Shafi Sami, Hon’ble Chairperson, Board of Trustees (BOT), UAP.
The meeting was addressed by the Hon’ble members of the Board of Trustees of UAP - Mr. Qayum Reza Chowdhury and Al-haj Abdul Malek Mollah who recalled their memories and associations with Bangabandhu. Later the Treasurer, Heads of different departments and the Registrar spoke on the occasion. The speakers highlighted the leadership qualities of Bangabandhu that continues to inspire the nation. The meeting ended with a prayers for Bangabandhu and his family members who embraced shahadat on the day. Prayers were also offered for the martyred National Leaders, martyrs of the Liberation War and continued peace and progress of the nation.
The national flag, along with UAP flag was hoisted half-mast to commemorate the day.
