International Collaborative Events

  • Joint Studio with Dankook University, Yongin, South Korea

The Department of Architecture, UAP, organized the studio from January 12-26, 2019, where a total of 20 students – 10 Bangladeshi and 10 Korean – took part in the joint design sessions. In the sessions, they attempted to provide solutions for the revival and urban reintegration of Panthapath and its surrounding area and connecting of the Dhanmondi Lake and Begunbari Khal. The design addressed important issues like the connection of water bodies for re-connecting Dhaka's water networks. The students worked through rigorous site survey data which resulted in design interventions for the Panthapath road, the catchment market re-design, intervention of pocket spaces in between built forms, and road networking and storage solutions for rickshaw. The international joint studio was supervised and coordinated by Prof. Jae Wook Chung, Ar. Srijon Barua, and Ar. Saumyabrata Roy. The closing ceremony was attended by Pro-VC of UAP Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir; the President of Institutes of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) Ar. Jalal Ahmed; former president of IAB and chief architect of Bangladesh government Ar. Kazi Golam Nasir and many others. 

 

  • Joint Workshop with International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM)

 

A joint workshop between students of Urban Design Studio of faculty of Architecture and Planning, International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), and Department of Architecture, UAP was held in May 2011. The students worked together in preparing a measured drawing of Lalbagh Fort. Later an Exhibition was held with drawings and photographs prepared in the workshop. A concluding ceremony followed by dinner was held at the department premises. Shafiqul Islam, DG, Department of Archeology, Mobashsher Hossain, President, Institute of Architects Bangladesh, Engineer Md Abu Taher, Chairman, UAP Board of the trustee, faculty members of the department, and students were present in the ceremony. The Faculty Dean of IIUM came to Dhaka only to attend the concluding ceremony.

Collaborative Studio/Sessions
  • Presentation and collaboration session at Jadobpur university, India

Students of the fourth-year first semester of architecture department went to Kolkata for the urban design studio with their design teacher Ar. Rahat Mahmud Chowdhury with the intention to share a session with the Department of Architecture of Jadobpur University and to visit a recent urban project named New Town Development by HITCO. UAP students presented on the current architectural trend in Dhaka followed by discussion sessions with the students of the host department. Mrs. Madumita Roy, professor of the Jadobpur university coordinated this collaboration on behalf of the Jadobpur university. Renowned conservation specialist, Ar. Manish Chakravarti conducted a session “The Heritage Walk”, a study tour program to visit the historical buildings of Kolkata.
