Study tour to the Liberation War Museum

In association with the History and Heritage Club, the Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities organized a study tour to the Liberation War Museum for the students of the 1st semester on 25 January 2020. Mr. A. S. M. Mohsin, Assistant Professor, History, and advisor of the club was present with the students. Around 60 students from different departments participated in the program.

 

After visiting all galleries, they also took part in a quiz text based on the information in their mind. Bushra Jahan Tanu (Reg. 19201048), a student from the Department of CSE successfully scored full marks and achieved the 1st prize. Four other students from different departments also awarded for their good performance. This study tour was important for them to increase their knowledge about political development which led to the emergence of Bangladesh.

 

 

EWU Mathematics Olympiad 2019 Participation

The 6th East-West University Inter-University Math Olympiad was held on 23 March 2019 at East-West University. Twenty-one universities participated in the Olympiad. A team of seven students from UAP competed in the contest. Ms. Maisha Islam Sejunti, Lecturer in Mathematics gave necessary mentorship to the team.

 

 

History & Heritage Club in association with the Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities, UAP organized a day-long Study Tour to Panam City and Sonargaon

History & Heritage Club, UAP organized a day-long Study Tour to Panam City and Sonargaon, Narayanganj in association with the Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities on 19 July 2019.

Panam City, situated in Sonargaon, Narayanganj is an ancient historical city of Bangladesh. There are many historical buildings that were built centuries ago and are related to the history of Baro-Bhuyan.

Students also visited the Folk Art Museum which was established in Sonargaon in 1975 by Shilpacharya Joynul Abedin. The museum exhibits wooden crafts, brass, bamboo, and metal crafts, painted work, musical instruments, pottery, textiles, ornaments, and much more.

A total of 60 students from different departments participated in the study tour. They learned about the society of medieval Bengal, especially in the Mughal period. Mr. A. S. M. Mohsin, Assistant Professor of History and adviser of History and Heritage Club, UAP coordinated the tour. The tour was also attended by some of the faculty members of the Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities including Assistant Professor Layeqa Bashir.

 

 

Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities organizes a Study Tour in National Museum

Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities organized a study tour as a part of the academic program to the National Museum of Bangladesh for the students of the 1st semester on 26 January 2019 with the association of History and Heritage Club, UAP.

Mr. A. S. M. Mohsin, Assistant Professor (History), Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities and adviser of the above-mentioned club was present with the students. This tour was important for them to increase their knowledge about the cultural and political development of the Bengali Nation which led to the emergence of Bangladesh in 1971. Students took this tour seriously and enjoyed a lot.

 


History & Heritage Club in association with the Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities, UAP organized a Lecture on "Transformation of the Society in Medieval Bengal: Role of the Sufis" at UAP

History and Heritage Club, UAP organized a special lecture on 22 November 2018 titled "Transformation of the Society in Medieval Bengal: Role of the Sufis". Sayed Abu Touab Shakir, Associate Professor, Department of History, Jahangirnagar University was the keynote speaker. Sufis played a vital role in spreading Islam in Bengal. Because of their liberal ideologies, a lot of people converted to Islam in the Bengal delta, and Islam has developed as a moderate religion. Sufis also played an important role in developing various religious and social institutions like Masjid, Madrasha, Khankhah, Dargasharif, and so on. This was the 3rd lecture arranged by the club.

Mr. A. S. M. Mohisn, Assistant Professor (History) and advisor of the History and Heritage Club hosted the program. Air Commodore Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.), Director, DSW, ended the program with a vote of thanks. Among others, Ms. Layeqa Bashir, Assistant Professor (Sociology), Mr. Anisur Rahman, Assistant Professor (Physics) and, Mr. Nahiyan Choudhury, Assistant Professor (Physics) were present.

 


History & Heritage Club in association with the Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities, UAP organized a day-long exhibition and a Special Lecture titled Bangladesh: From Language Movement to Independence

UAP History and Heritage Club under the direction of Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), organized a day-long photo exhibition in memory of the Language Martyrs, jointly with Shaheed Barkat Museum, Dhaka University on 1st August 2018 at UAP Plaza. The Club also organized a special lecture on the same day titled “বাংলাদেশ: ভাষা আন্দোলন থেকে স্বাধীনতা,” (Bangladesh: From Language Movement to Independence).

Dr. Abu Md. Delwar Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Professor, Department of History, University of Dhaka was the keynote speaker. He described the incidents which led to the independence of Bangladesh in 1971 from 1952. He showed photos related to the political and cultural development of the Bengali nation during the Pakistan period.

Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.), Director, DSW, ended the program with a vote of thanks. Among others, Dr. Sanjit Kumar Paul, Head & Professor in Mathematics, Ms. Layeqa Bashir, Assistant Professor, Sociology, Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities, and Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW were present. Mr. A. S. M. Mohisn, Assistant Professor, History and advisor, History and Heritage Club coordinated the program.
 

 

 

Department of Basic Sciences & Humanities, UAP organized 9th Dhaka South Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad 2017

9th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad 2017 (NUMO17) was conducted throughout the country with the financial co-operation of the A. F. Mujibur Rahman Foundation. National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad Committee decided to hold six Regional Olympiads at seven locations across the country. Top 10 contestants from these Regional Olympiads participated in the National Olympiad held at the Department of Applied Mathematics, University of Dhaka (DU), Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities, University of Asia Pacific (UAP), Dhaka organized Dhaka South Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad 2017 (DSRUMO17) in cooperation with National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad Committee and Bangladesh Mathematical Society. 

The aim of the Mathematics Olympiad is to create opportunities for our young talented students in the country to shine and show their mathematical and analytical ability and to create a nationwide awareness for the development of mathematical skills. Enthusiastic students of our country pursuing an undergraduate course in Mathematics or any related subject in Science, Engineering, or Technology are eligible to participate.

Shovon Sourav Datta, a student of the applied mathematics department of Dhaka University won the 1st position. Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, the vice-chancellor of UAP, handed over crests and certificates to the first 10 winners who joined in the final round of National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad 2017 the following. Some 76 participants from different universities of Dhaka South zone took part in the contest.
