An orientation and farewell program of Solpo Meyadi Shishu Sikkha Karjokrom (SMSSK) held at the backyard plaza of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) city campus on July 01, 2018.
Students of the department of Civil Engineering (CE) organized the program to inspire the outgoing and welcoming batches of SMSSK, a pre-school project for slum children.
Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro Vice Chancellor also the chief patron of SMSSK addressed the program as chief guest. The program was also addressed by Prof. Dr. Mizanur Rahaman, Head, CE, Dr. Md Jihad Miah, Assistant Professor, CE and some of the students of the department. In the program, children were given certificates and bags and other academic accessories.
Established in 2009, at SMSSK, children are taught both Bangla and English alphabets. Sometimes, they are taught basic manners and provided with daily needs like towels, soaps and toothpastes.
On 16 May 2018, UAP Social Awareness Club under the direction of Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), and in association with Western Union and Radio Today, distributed school dress among the students of “Dikkhaloy,” a school for the underprivileged children in a remote village named Shuhilpur in Brahmanbaria district.
Eleven students of UAP volunteered to make a smile to the unprivileged children under the project titled “From You to Them with Love Right Now”, sponsored by Western Union. Recently, three of the team members shared their experience in voluntary works at Radio Today, a leading FM Radio of Dhaka.
A total of 240 (Two hundred and forty) school uniforms were distributed. The student volunteers also erected a fence to protect the kids from an adjacent pond which was considered a great risk for them.
The project was coordinated by Ms. Mahjabeen Gazi, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy and Adviser, Social Awareness Club, and Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW and guided by Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.), Director, DSW, UAP. DSW organizes a number of programmes throughout the year in the areas of personal development, volunteerism, and social responsibilities to raise social awareness among the students.
On 14 May, 2018, Social Awareness Club, under the direction of Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), organized a voluntary Blood Donation Campaign in cooperation with the Quantum Foundation. A large number of students from different departments of the university cheerfully participated in the programme. The program started at 10:00 am and continued till 5:00 pm at UAP Plaza. Ms. Mahjabeen Gazi, Advisor of the Social Awareness Club and Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director of DSW were present at the inaugural ceremony. During the campaign total 53 volunteers participated in the registration process and after preliminary on-site medical screening for health history, body weight and blood pressure nearly 41 individuals were finally selected for blood donation.
The donors were screened for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Syphilis, AIDS, Malaria at free of cost. They were also given a donor card from Quantum Foundation. With this card, they and their family members will get blood easily at the time of need from Quantum Foundation.Social Awareness Club honored the donors with a token of appreciation for their valuable contribution in this noble task. Generally, the club recognizes the donors, who have donated blood more than three times.
University of Asia Pacific paid rich tributes to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, the Liberation War Heroes and the Martyrs by offering floral wreath at the altar of the National Martyrs’ Memorial at Savar on Monday, 26th March 2018 marking the 48th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.
A team of students and officials of UAP placed the wreath in the morning at the National Martyrs’ Memorialas a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs. The team also visited Jahangirnagar University campus which wore a colorful look as the country's longest Alpona was drawn there, marking the Independence and National day.
The Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Asia Pacific arranged a “Provat Feri” towards the Central Shaheed Minar to pay rich tribute to the martyrs of the 1952 historic Language Movement on Wednesday, 21st February 2018 marking 'Amar Ekushey', the Language Martyrs Day and International Mother Language Day. Students and officials led by Assistant Director, DSW Md. Tarek Khan paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the language movement offering floral wreath at the altar of the Shaheed Minar. Among others, Mr. Md. Rakibul Hasan, Socio Counselor, and Mr. Bachchu Shekh, APRO, UAP were present.
On this day in 1952, the then Pakistan police shot dead several students and activists who, under the All-Party Students Action Committee, were demanding Bangla as the state language of Pakistan. Salam, Barkat, Rafique, Shafique, Jabbar and some others embraced martyrdomon that day. The incident on 21 February 1952 sparked a province-wide public agitation that finally compelled Pakistani authority to recognize Bangla as the state language in the constitution of Pakistan promulgated on 23 March 1956.
On 17 November 1999, the United Nations declared February 21 to be the International Mother Language Day. It is our national pride that 21 February, Bangladesh’s Amar Ekushey is being observed all over the world today as International Mother Language Day.
Social Awareness Club, UAP under the direction of the Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW) organized a Seminar on Gratification on Monday, January 29th at the room no. 414, Department of Pharmacy. Kazi Shamim, Head of Sales Training, Orion Pharma Ltd. addressed the seminar as the keynote presenter. Faculty members and students from different departments attended in the seminar.
Mr. Shamim conveyed a message to the audience that “self gratification” is the pursuit of happiness. The seminar highlighted on lifestyle factors which create negative emotions, especially in the student life and showed the possible strategies to overcome the impediments by self gratification. He also discussed the origins and sources of the appeal of the ‘gratifications’ paradigm and reviewed the social origins of gratifications, and the interplay of gratifications and its effects. The program was concluded by a meditation on gratification. Md. Ariful Huda Ashik, President, Social Awareness Club coordinated the seminar.
