Q. How many Convocation Ceremonies are held for UAP?

A. At the end of 2019, nine Convocation ceremonies are held for UAP

Q. When was the first Convocation for UAP? 

A. The first Convocation of UAP was held on March 16, 2005, at the venue of Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Center Dhaka where the numbers of graduating students were 622

Q. When will be the next convocation and how can I know about it?

A. Any Convocation-related notice regarding the next convocation or the procedures to attend will be duly announced by the UAP authority and the concerning department in form of Office Notices and will be distributed in notice boards and the UAP website. Individual Departments will circulate the information through official social media portals to reach all graduating students.

Q. I could not attend the previous Convocation due to my personal reason. Now can I attend this (current) Convocation?

Q. Do I need to register beforehand to attend a Convocation?

A. Yes. A deadline will be announced for registration to participate in convocation; within the deadline, willing graduates must register.

Q. I did not register within the deadline, can I attend the convocation?

A. No. due to the present arrangements of the convocation ceremonies such as seat requirement and arrangement in the hall etc., it is necessary to know the exact number of attendees. Therefore registration is a must to be closed on time. However, graduates are asked to contact respective departments if any such situation occurs.

Q. How much is the Convocation Registration Fee?

A. 6,000 Taka

Q. Where can I get Convocation materials (gowns, caps, souvenirs, cards, etc.)?

A. Please keep an eye on Department noticeboards and UAP websites for instructions for any convocation related issues including convocation material distributions. In general, students can get these materials from the DAO of respective departments.

Q. Is it mandatory to return the convocation gown, cap, and hood? Can I keep it?

A. It is mandatory to show the receipt of return of convocation materials i.e. gown, cap, and hood when a student will apply for Original Certificates. You can collect this receipt from your department. However, if you want to keep the above-mentioned convocation materials, an amount of Tk.2,000/- will be charged instead and you need to inform properly when you apply for the original certificate.

Q. How many persons can accompany me in convocation?

A. The number of accompanying persons per student varies for each convocation. In the last couple of convocations, only one person was allowed to accompany per graduate. Please check related convocation notices.

Q. Can I bring mobile phones to the convocation hall?

A. It depends on the security protocols for the Chief Guest of the Convocation. Usually, when the Hon'ble President of Bangladesh attends the convocation, any sort of mobile device is prohibited in the hall except a few persons with higher security clearances. Please check with the concerned DAO for instructions.

Q. Where should I put my Tassel in the Cap? Left or Right?

A. Graduation tassels go on the right side of your cap before you graduate. The tradition of moving the tassel on graduation caps from the right side to the left side during the commencement ceremony signifies the recognition of earning a degree. It is known as "turning of the tassel."

Q. What is the meaning of color in my convocation gown, cap, and hood?

A. Usually the convocation gowns are black with few exceptions, but the wide variety is seen in colored stripes, tassels, belts, and hoods. The meanings of the color codes are as below

Convocation related FAQ

 The original certificates of the 9th convocation distribution

The special window for each department to collect original Certificates expired on August 29, 2019. From September 1, 2019, original certificates can be collected from the Office of the Controller of Examinations between 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM


Requirements for receiving the original certificate:

1. Producing the receipt of the return of convocation materials i.e. gown, cap, and hood. (Please collect the receipt from your department)

2. Must return provisional certificate if issued earlier.

3. If you are not issued a provisional certificate & transcript earlier, you must fill up the application form available at the respective department or download the form from the link http://www.uap-bd.edu/services/f5.pdf.

4. Those who have applied for provisional certificates and transcripts must return their receipts and ID cards.
