UAP Research and Development Exposition 2012

  • 19-21 July, 2012

The Institute of Energy, Environment, Research and Development (IEERD) of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) organised the three-day-long UAP Research and Development Exposition 2012 from July 19 to July 21, 2012. Different departments of UAP joined the event and presented their projects. Also GTZ and Rahimafrooz came up with their environment friendly projects like Solar power and clay stove at the event. Projects prepared by the different departments came up with some innovative ideas. There was something special about almost each project presented at the exposition. Yet among all, one project seemed to be outstanding. The Software and Hardware Club of Computer Science and Engineering Department presented Doraemon Surveillance Robot. It has been developed by Abdulllah Al Naser, Riazul Iskanm Shakil Khan, Raiyana Alam and the project was supervised by Md Arif Reza Anwary and A A Zaforullah Momtaz.
Doraemon Surveillance Robot is a kind of strategic robot. It has light, temperature, sound, and vision sensors. Previously Software and Hardware (SNH) Club of CSE, UAP developed Bangla Manob I, II and III and this time this club came up with the new project Doeramon Surveillance Robot. It has been created for security reasons. Though It has characteristics of the other robots innovated by the SNH club in previous days, yet this time some more new characteristics have been added which makes it different form the other robots of the past. Humans have limitations when it comes to security measures. We can not just depend on the watchmen entirely and relax for rest of the night. At one point, humans fall asleep due to stress and tiredness. In the middle of the night, it is not always possible to stay awake for one. Even if one sleeps enough during daytime, there's no guaranty that he will not fall asleep at midnight. From 2:00 AM to 3:30 AM it gets almost impossible to stay awake. But with the robots we can have an upper hand! They don't fall asleep and can provide us with uninterrupted security service at night, whenever any problem occurs they will be alert and will take actions right away. Doraemon Surveillance Robot has been particularly created for taking instant decision for security. It can be used both at home and at office. This robot will protect the buildings from intruders, thieves and terrorists. It can also control electrical devices to save consumption of power.

Seminar on “Planar Antennas for Small Satellites”

  • 24 December 2015

A seminar on “Planar Antennas for Small Satellites” was held at the Computer Science and Engineering Department of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on 24 December 2015. Professor Dr. Mohammad Tariqul Islam of Department of Electrical, Electronic & System Engineering of the National University of Malaysia was the resource person of the seminar. In today’s era of wireless communication, there has been increased need of high speed communication to achieve high quality transmission of voice, video or data. Satellite communication is one of the most important modes of wireless communication and has a significant role in the field of global telecommunications. There are approximately 2000 artificial satellites orbiting Earth and enable communication to and from multiple locations across the globe. One of the advanced satellite technologies is ‘small satellites’ which enables a number of tasks and experiments in space previously considered impossible or impractical. Small satellites came into existence because of the evolved miniaturization technologies. Besides the advantages of small satellite, it is a challenge to provide all necessary components within the physical limitations and restrictions. One of the main concerns for small satellite is to have adequate, efficient and economically viable antenna. Antennas are indispensable components in the design of satellite communication systems. The employment of lower frequency antenna (UHF/VHF) requires large antennas due to their large wavelength. Low speed communication, deployable monopole and 3D antennas are unsuitable for small satellite applications as they increase complexity of operation and the possibility of failure.
