Ms. Parveen S. Huda, Managing Director and Lead Consultant, Renaissance Consultants Ltd., and Ms. Mohsina Ashraf, CEO and Lead Consultant Triskele Ever conducted the workshop. It helped the participants to systematically identify their key competencies, focus on the goals of their career and how to achieve goals. DSW conducts a series of seminar and workshop under an MOU signed with Renaissance Consultants Ltd.
Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, DSW, and Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW were present in the workshop.
Brig Gen Mirza Baker, former President of ISSB and former Registrar of Bangladesh University of Professionals, shared the story of his life and how from a humble beginning he ended up as a Brigadier in the army. He described the important roles played by his parents, elders, teachers and seniors in shaping his destiny. He conveyed a beautiful message to the students- “You may go to abroad for higher education, but you must return to the great nation, Bangladesh.” His speech helped the students to be passionate, hard worker and determined to achieve life’s goal.
Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.), Director, DSW, ended the program with a vote of thanks. Among others, Ms. Sisili Rahman, lecturer, DBA and Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW were present.
The Socio Counselor of UAP Mr. Md. Rakibul Hasan, Intern Socio Counselors Ms. Shahina Akther & Ms. Ayesha Islam conducted the workshop. The workshop was segmented with several group works and games, which helped the students to recognize the nature and severity of their internet addiction. In addition, elaborate discussion was made on the advantages and disadvantages of Internet useand symptoms of Internet addiction. Following the discussion, students were provided various tools like systematic desensitization that helped them to manage their addiction gradually. It was further discussed, how internet addicts can have a good sleep at night with the help of sleep hygiene technique. In the workshop, the participants disclosed many issues related to internet addiction that they are facing in their day-to-day life. Through this workshop, those issues were also addressed at the end of the workshop with a Q&A session.
On 18 April 2018, Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Asia Pacific, in association with NRB Jobs, organized a two-hour long workshop on “Career Planning and Effective CV Writing.” Md. Tarek Khan, Asst Dir, DSW, while welcoming the resource person and guests emphasized the need for effective CV writing as well as choose the right career path and prepare accordingly. He informed the students that the DSW Career Service wants to build up students’ future market ability by arranging career-related lectures by professional experts.
Mr. S. M. Waliullah Hossain, an experienced organizational and management professional conducted the workshop. He shared his expert knowledge in Human Resources sector to create career-related awareness among the participants. Mr. Hossain focused on the key points of choosing the right career. He displayed the common mistakes of a CV and how to avoid those. In the Q&A session, the students raised various query regarding choosing the right career and how to prepare a CV which reflects an individual the best. Among others, Mr. Nahid Ferdous Auny, Head of Business, NRB Jobs, was present in the program. Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.) Director, DSW, ended the workshop with a vote of thanks.
The Social Counseling Centre (SCC) of Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Asia Pacific (UAP) organized a seminar on “Cyber Bullying & Youth Engagement” on May 16, 2018 at Backyard Plaza, UAP.
The seminar was inaugurated by Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, Directorate of Students’ Welfare, University of Asia Pacific (UAP). In his speech, the Director talked about the importance of this seminar in view of recent incidents at UAP as well as across the country where cyber space was used for personal attack amounting to bullying and harassment. The key speakers of the seminar were Dr. Ahmed Helal, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, National Institute of Mental Health; Shaheed-Ul-Munir, Director, Bangladesh Computer Council and Ms. Farzana Wahid Sayan, Singer & Social Activist.
Mr. Helal emphasized on the notion of cyber bullying and the paradigm shift of this notion with the advanced use of internet and technology. He talked about how cyber bullying is affecting the mental health and well-being of university going students. He elaborately discussed about the types of cyber bullying and its effects on youth. He wrapped up his speech by letting the participants know about some effective techniques to keep ourselves safe from being cyber bullied.
Mr. Munir talked about how university going students are being affected by the unsafe use of internet and cyber technology and discussed about ways to remain safe while using cyber space. He also focused on various positive aspects of internet use and suggested the youth to get more engaged on those activities.
Ms. Sayan brought her personal experiences of being bullied on her young age and encouraged the participants to raise awareness by discussing openly about the mental health issues. She also emphasized on the practice of showing respect and kindness to the unprivileged people of our society by singing two of her songs.
The seminar was facilitated in an interactive manner and the participants were very much engaged throughout the session. It was wrapped with a vote of thanks to the speakers by Mr. Md. Rakibul Hasan, Socio Counselor, Social Counseling Centre, DSW, UAP. Among others, Assistant Director, DSW, Md. Tarek Khan, Intern Socio Counselors Ms. Shahina Akhter and Ms. Ayesha Islam were present.
Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Asia Pacific (UAP) organized a day- long Career Fair at UAP Plaza on April 26, 2018 to provide career opportunities to graduates and soon-to- be graduate students of UAP. Twenty renowned companies and organizations offered a wide range of career opportunities to UAP students. The fair provided a platform to the students and graduates to meet the hiring managers and submit their CV for a number of career openings. Mr. Monzoor Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman, BOT and Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro Vice Chancellor, UAP jointly inaugurated the fair. Mr. Chowdhury cordially welcomed the companies and thanked them for joining the fair. Prof. Kabir, appreciated the efforts of DSW for organizing the fair and highlighted the objectives of such fair.
Hundreds of students, soon-to- be graduates, and recent graduates visited the companies, talked to the HR managers on various employment-related issues and submitted their CV for further recruitment procedure. Among others, Dr. M. Alauddin, Senior Vice Chairman, BOT, Al-haj Abdul Malek Mollah, Member, BOT, Heads of different departments, Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, DSW, Mr. Sarwar R Chowdhury, Registrar, faculty members and UAP were present at the fair. Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW was overall in-charge of the fair.
