  • Seminar on “Energy and Environment: Global Warming and Fossil Fuel Usage”, 20th January 2020

On 20th January 2020, Institute of Energy, Environment, Research and Development (IEERD), UAP organized a seminar titled “Energy and Environment: Global Warming and Fossil Fuel Usage”. The seminar was delivered by Professor Rashid Hasan, Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering, Texas A&M University, USA. The seminar was attended by  A. K. M. Kamaluddin Choudhury, Mr. Quyum Reza Chowdhury, and Dr. M. Alauddin (Members of BOT), Pro VC Professor M. R. Kabir, 30 faculty members, and around 200 postgraduate and undergraduate students of UAP. Several external experts also attended the seminar.

Professor Rashid Hasan explained the significant issues of energy, environment, global warming, and fossil fuel. The use of fossil fuel greatly changed our environment, especially air, for the worse. Burning fossil fuel inevitably produced carbon-dioxide, a green-house gas, that allowed greater heat retention and started global warming, melting of polar ice caps, and the rise of sea level. For a low elevation country like Bangladesh, sea-level rise could soon lead to disastrous consequences to Bangladeshis. The speaker also explained the relation between fossil fuel usage and global warming and the alternative uses of energy resources to reduce the percentage of the emission of carbon-di-oxide.

This presentation focused on alternative fuel usage to reduce greenhouse gas production and issues with such usage. The effort by the petroleum industry to reduce its carbon footprint was also discussed.

Among others, Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Treasurer), Sarwar Razzaq Chowdhury (Registrar UAP), Professor Tapan Kumar Chakraborty (Head, Dept. of EEE), Prof. Dr. Md. Sultan Mahmud (Head, Dept. of BSH) and Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanur Rahaman (Director, IEERD) were present in this seminar.

  • Workshop on “Scientific writing and communications techniques for early-career academicians and researchers”. 15th January 2020

On 15th January 2020, Institute of Energy, Environment, Research and Development (IEERD), UAP organized a workshop titled “Scientific writing and communications techniques for early-career academicians and researchers”. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Sharif A. Mukul, University of the Sunshine Coast (Australia) and Florida International University (USA). The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir (Pro Vice Chancellor) and Dr. Mohammed Alauddin (Member, BOT). 17 faculty members and 5 postgraduate students of UAP attended this workshop.

Dr. Sharif A. Mukul explained the importance of scientific writing and communication techniques that are essential for publishing research articles in useful, potential journals and valid journals and for choosing the best foreign institutions to pursue higher studies.

With hands-on training, this three and half hours long workshop helps the participants to improve their skills in:

Developing a profile for a scientific/academic career

Scientific writing, publications, and presentations

Finding a suitable institution and supervisor/professor for higher studies

Among others, Professor Shahriyar Anam, Md. Asaduzzaman (Head, Department of Law and Human Rights) and Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanur Rahaman, Director, IEERD were present in this workshop.

  • Workshop on “Structural Equation Modeling: An Introduction”, 07 December 2019

On 07 December 2019 (Saturday), Institute of Energy, Environment, Research and Development (IEERD), UAP organized a workshop titled “Structural Equation Modeling: An Introduction”. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Mahbubul Haque, Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration, University of Asia Pacific (UAP). The workshop was attended by 27 faculty members and 4 postgraduate students of UAP. Dr. Mahbubul Haque explained the importance of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) which is a sophisticated statistical technique widely used in investigating the relationships between/among a set of variables. It has found its diverse use across various disciplines, such, as, Business, Engineering, Pharmacology, Education, Environment, Psychology, Sociology, etc.

With hands-on training, this five hours long workshop helps the participants to: 1. Develop a basic understanding of SEM: measurement model & structural model;
2. Gain hands-on experience of running the AMOS software; 3. Analyze the model fitness and statistical significance of the relationships between or among variables in a research framework; 4.Report the findings gathered through SPSS & AMOS software

Among others, Professor Shahriyar Anam, Sarwar Razzaq Chowdhury (Registrar UAP), and Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanur Rahaman, Director, IEERD were present in this workshop.
