UAP is the pioneer in launching 4 years Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm Hons.) in 1996 and 1 year Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology (MS. Pharm Tech) in 2003. The Pharmacy department is one of the most progressive and established departments of the university as well as in the country. Following semester system, the B. Pharm Hons. requires 8 semesters to prepare students as pharmacists and the MS. Pharm Tech requires 2 semesters to nurture the graduate pharmacists as integrated members of health-care system.

Research scope is what we offer

Twelve highly equipped teaching and research laboratories which are highly equipped with up-to-date analytical instruments and machineries for evaluation of various dosage forms, design and manufacture of dosage forms, understanding of microbial disease pathogenesis and transmission, study of bio-chemical and biological studies of potential drug substance of natural origin.

Our Mission & Vision

 

The areas of strength in the department of Pharmacy is its atmosphere of professionalism and advance knowledge of the faculty members in accordance with its state-of-art research facilities that support highly sophisticated studies on drug action. The dedicated faculty members provide maximum effort for improving the quality of teaching-learning. Through sincere communication they ensure that each student receives right guideline for their studies such as getting the course outlines, teaching materials and other supporting assistance. They also allocate advising time for the students after classes to sit and meet with them for any kind of queries or difficulties concerning their course.

Pharmaceutical in-plant training is a part of the B. Pharm. curriculum and required for professional registration from Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh. It is one of the areas of strength of Pharmacy department that exposes the students to practical applications of education so as to connect the practice in industry with university curriculum and build their technical skills and capability. 

The role that the pharmaceutical industries play in UAP pharmacy education is a unique strength of the Department. In every semester 80-90 students go to a number of local and international pharmaceutical companies for their in-plant training for a  period of 2 to 4 weeks. In this period, the students gather practical knowledge and experience regarding the manufacturing process of different dosage forms, In-Process Control procedure, Quality Control procedure, Validation process, Packaging technology and Regulatory guidelines. Message from the Head of the Department

The Department of Pharmacy is recognized as one of the outstanding pharmacy education and research institutions in the country. Two programs are currently offered by the department 4 year Bachelor of Pharmacy program (B. Pharm) and 1 year Master program. The B. Pharm program consists of 162 credit hours spread in 41 courses and project works. The Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Technoloy program (MS Pharm Tech) consists of 30 credit hours for thesis students and 24 for non-thesis students. The programs are supported by centers of excellence in diverse areas of pharmacy, such as basic pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical technology, pharmacology, pathology, pharmaceutical microbiology, pharmaceutical analysis and quality assurance, pharmaceutical engineering, pharmaceutical management, hospital and community pharmacy.

The department is housed in 39000 square feet area, designed specifically for health education, research and practice. Pharmacy students have access to modern classrooms, highly equipped laboratories and more than 40,000 volumes of pharmacy resource materials.

At the department, we prepare different dosage forms of drugs and cosmetic products such as tablet, capsule, syrup, suspension, cream, ointment, suppository, shampoo, toothpaste, mouthwash etc. We also develop new pharmacopoeial methods, impurity analysis and identification, cleaning validation, degradation tests and stability studies.
