It is a greater duty of a university to make positive contribution in the vast body of collective knowledge. It is within the scopes and opportunities of an academic institution to critically observe, analyze, synthesize, speculate and create new knowledge and applications with proper and varied methodologies. UAP upholds that responsibility and wants to create direct impact on the society at large. UAP encourages both the faculty members and students to delve into their chosen fields by incorporating scopes in both within curricular activities and in personal/ collective endeavors by form of providing funds, infrastructural supports and options to test theories in direct practices.
IEERD
The Institute for Energy, Environment, Research and Development
The Institute for Energy, Environment, Research and Development (IEERD) is established at the University of Asia Pacific as a constituent research and academic institute or center with a separate administrative structure. The purpose of the “Institute” is to keep pace with regional and global research of development and education in energy including clean energy, increasing energy efficiency of equipment and appliances, work on quality of materials, environment, water resources and water management and other related fields at the University.
The aims and objectives of the” Institute” are to undertake and promote research and teaching in the fields of energy with emphasis on new and renewable energy development, energy conservation and energy management, assessing quality of materials, environment, water resources, water management, development and to develop human resources in the relevant fields.
Currently the scope of IEERD‟s field of interest has expanded even further
The head of the “Institute” is the Director designated who is appointed by the Vice Chancellor. Director is appointed on a two year terms from among the Professors/Research Professors of UAP.
The administration and management of the” Institute” is vested on the Advisory Council consisting of Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Deans and Head of other departments including representatives from Power and Energy Division of Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and Planning Commission. Also Energy, Environment, Development and Water Resources specialists are nominated by the Syndicate from among the professionals working in the related fields. Two Professors/Research Professors nominated by the Vice-Chancellor. The Director of the Institute acts as Member-Secretary to the Advisory Council. Director is authorized to employ members of the Institute and subordinate staff of the Institute.
Center for Research, Training, Testing and Consultancy (CRTTC)
The Department of Civil Engineering provides consultation services to different government and private organizations through CRTTC. These services generally include materials testing, water quality testing, structural design, technical feasibility studies etc.
FQIC (Faculty Quality Improvement Circle)
To enhance the research expertise of the faculty members, the Department of Business Administration has established a research cell named “Faculty Quality Improvement Circle”. Since its creation in 2013 Dr. Mahbubul Haque, Associate Professor of UAP, is actively in charge of the Circle. FQIC has been helping the faculty members in coming up with innovative ideas and working on them , organize workshops on research methodology, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), literature review, and how to publish in indexed journals.
CISP (Center for IT Security and Privacy)
CISP is the first ever center of its kind in Bangladesh. The mission of CISP is to enhance and extend existing technological strength in IT, with demonstrated potential for Bangladesh. In pursuing this mission, the center will conduct interdisciplinary research on IT security, data privacy, and trusted systems; on software for fault tolerant and dependable systems; and on product reliability. The center will hold research seminars/meetings related to security and privacy, and work under collaborations with different domestic and international universities or research laboratories. Moreover, the center is willing to research with a view to developing effective cyber security and privacy policy for our country. Furthermore, CISP plans to offer security training services to government/non-government organizations and individuals.
