University of Asia Pacific observed National Mourning Day on 15th August 2020 over the online platform to pay homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 45th martyrdom anniversary. The discussion was presided over by Professor Dr. M. R. Kabir, Acting Vice-Chancellor, UAP. A short video message was delivered by Mr. C. M. Shafi Sami, Hon’ble Chairperson, Board of Trustees (BOT), UAP. The meeting was addressed by the Hon’ble members of the Board of Trustees of UAP - Mr. Qayum Reza Chowdhury and Al-haj Abdul Malek Mollah who recalled their memories and associations with Bangabandhu. Later the Treasurer, Heads of different departments, and the Registrar spoke on the occasion. The speakers highlighted the leadership qualities of Bangabandhu that continue to inspire the nation. The meeting ended with prayers for Bangabandhu and his family members who embraced shahadat on the day. Prayers were also offered for the martyred National Leaders, martyrs of the Liberation War, and continued peace and progress of the nation. The national flag, along with the UAP flag was hoisted half-mast to commemorate the day.

Students and officials led by Assistant Director, DSW Md. Tarek Khan paid rich tribute to the martyrs of the language movement offering a floral wreath at the altar of the Shaheed Minar. Among others, Mr. Md. Rakibul Hasan, Socio Counselor, and Mr. Bachchu Shekh, APRO, UAP were present. On this day in 1952, the then Pakistan police shot dead several students and activists who, under the All-Party Students Action Committee, were demanding Bangla as the state language of Pakistan. Salam, Barkat, Rafique, Shafique, Jabbar, and some others embraced martyrdom on that day. The incident on 21 February 1952 sparked a province-wide public agitation that finally compelled Pakistani authority to recognize Bangla as the state language in the constitution of Pakistan promulgated on 23 March 1956. On 17 November 1999, the United Nations declared February 21 to be the International Mother Language Day. It is our national pride that 21 February, Bangladesh’s Amar Ekushey is being observed all over the world today as International Mother Language Day.
Barrister Jyortirmoy Barua talked about the unsecured condition of the right to privacy in Bangladesh. Highlighting his practical experiences relating to the mobile SIM's biometric registration and the collection of citizen's personal information by the police, he criticized the initiatives of the government from the perspectives of universal human rights jurisprudence. Giving examples of some case studies, he apprehended such initiatives might threaten the citizen's right to privacy as Bangladesh does not have any personal data protection law. He also emphasized that members of our judiciary must be trained up with the development of technology as legal instruments and initiatives have many technological implications. Muhammad Jahangir spoke on the issue of freedom of expression and freedom of the press. He said media houses nowadays have developed a tendency of imposing self-censorship fearing the action of the government. He urged young people to raise their voices against all sorts of injustice and violence. Dr. Shahnaz Huda talked about the personal law and family matters of people who profess different religions. She showed how discriminately law applies against women in all religions. Showing different international laws where women's equal rights have been ensured before marriage, during the marriage, and at its dissolution, she criticized the legal system of Bangladesh which does not sufficiently protect women's rights in the family structure. She hoped that the government would take concerted steps to eliminate legal injustices for the betterment of the women population. Dr. Shahdeen Malik spoke on the recent issue of enforced disappearances where mostly the law enforcing agencies are allegedly involved. He feared that if such practice continues, someday our democratic rights and voices would disappear. Professor Dr. M R Kabir, Pro-VC of the UAP, thanked all the speakers for talking on the less-discussed human rights issues of Bangladesh. He hoped that young researchers especially the law students and academics across the country would endeavor to investigate the socio-legal problems and come out with efficacious solutions. The seminar was hosted by Ms. Nazia Wahab, Head of the Department of Law and Human Rights, UAP.
The Environment and Disaster Management Club (EDMC), University of Asia Pacific (UAP) celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm on June 05, 2015. with the theme "Fight against the illegal trade of wildlife. In this regard, a seminar on "World Environment Day 2016'' was held where Dr. Abdullah A-Muyeed, Technical Advisor, WASH, WaterAid Bangladesh was the resource person at the seminar. He discussed Life, Livelihoods, and Environment. Earlier, led by Professor M. R. Kabir, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, UAP, a colorful rally was brought on the streets on Dhanmondi. Faculty and students have attended the procession. Later, Prof. Kabir released pigeons as a symbol of peace and congratulated the students for their simultaneous participation in the program.

Students and administrative staff participated in the 'Probhat Feri' (the barefoot march to the Shaheed Minar) earlier in the program. Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Assistant Registrar (Admin & Student Counselor) led the program.
Every year, on the 5th of June, Bangladesh joins with the rest of the world to commemorate World Environment Day (WED). Observation of the day is aimed at encouraging global awareness of the environment and providing a worldwide platform to reach out to the citizens of the world. Like other organizations and institutions of Bangladesh, Environment and Disaster Management Club (EDMC), Civil Engineering department, UAP observed the day with due manner. The club chalked out a comprehensive program on the day including rally and discussion. The rally paraded the different streets of the Dhanmondi area, directed by the faculties of the CE department. Dr. M. Mizanur Rahaman, Mafruha Ahmed, Dr. Kazi Shamima Akter, and Rajib Kanti Biswas attended the rally among others. Students, faculties, and staff participated in the rally with festoons and posters.
