UAP Career Fair, 2020

  • 27-28 January 2020

Directorate of Students’ Welfare, University of Asia Pacific (UAP) in association with NRB Jobs Ltd. organized a two-day long Career Fair 2020 at UAP Plaza from 27-28 January 2020 to provide career opportunities to graduates and soon-to-be graduate students of UAP. Twenty renowned companies and organizations offered a wide range of career opportunities to UAP students. The fair provided a platform for the students and graduates to meet the hiring managers and submit their CV for a number of career openings.

Mr. C. M. Shafi Sami, Chairperson, BOT, and National Prof. Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor, UAP jointly inaugurated the fair. They cordially welcomed the companies and thanked them for joining the fair. Hundreds of students, soon-to-be graduates, and recent graduates visited the companies, talked to the HR managers on various employment-related queries, and submitted their CV for the further recruitment procedure. On the 1st day of the fair, more than 1000 CVs were submitted against 42 types of positions. More than 400 applications were shortlisted for the on-the-spot interview. On the 2nd day, the shortlisted students faced the interview. Among others,
Heads of different departments, Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, DSW, different directors, Mr. Sarwar R Chowdhury, Registrar, and faculty members were present at the fair.

 

Workshop on Career Planning and Entrepreneurship

  • January 22, 2020

On January 22, 2020, the Directorate of Students’ Welfare in association with NRB Jobs Ltd. organized a workshop titled “Career Planning and Entrepreneurship” at the UAP Auditorium marking the UAP Career Fair 2020 held on 27-28 January 2020. Mr. Kazi Saiful Islam, Head of HR and Administration, Dhaka Ice Cream Industries (Polar), and Mr. Md. Sohan Haidear, Founder and CEO, Smartifier Academy conducted the workshop. In the workshop, the resource persons emphasized earning good academic credentials, active involvement in different co-curricular activities both in the university and outside, and participating in the soft-skill learning programs. They also advised the participants to do a part-time job or work on creating business ideas in between their study. These initiatives will be beneficial to the undergrad students acquiring experiences for their professional life. The resource persons presented different tools and methods for identifying and choosing the right career path and how to start with your entrepreneurial mind.

A mock interview session was demonstrated to help the participants to prepare themselves for their interview. Around 150 students from different departments participated in the workshop. A Q&A session was held at the end. Among others, Mr. Polash K. Nath, Assistant Manager, NRB Jobs Ltd was present. Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW ended the workshop with a vote of thanks.

 

Orientation program of 21st Century’s Employability Skills held at UAP

On 8 January 2020, DSW organized the orientation program at DBA Room no. 402 titled “21st Century’s Employability Skills,” an online-based 1 year-long skill-development course managed by Wadhwani Foundation, a USA Silicon Valley based philanthropic career development, and entrepreneurial related service provider, and organized by DSW, UAP. Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, UAP and Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, DSW attended the orientation program. Mr. Estanul Kabir, Country Programme Manager, Bangladesh, Wadhwani Foundation provided a presentation on different important features of the project including summary and user guidelines. Before that, a formal MOU has been signed on 18 November 2019 between UAP and Wadhwani Foundation to improve the soft skill set of UAP students and making them employment-ready for the growing economy of Bangladesh.

UAP and Wadhwani Foundation will work towards achieving superior placement, retention, and progression outcomes as a result of transformational employability training and assessments of students through e-content and enhanced teacher quality through structured faculty development programs. There will be a total of 100 lessons to be completed in 2 semesters. Most of the modules are online-based to be monitored and facilitated by Mr. Md. Tarek Khan, AD, DSW and Ms. Farjana Yasmin, Socio Counsellor, DSW, UAP. A total of 76 students have been enrolled in the 1-year long employability skill development program.

An exclusive career grooming workshop for UAP students

  • 29-30 November 2019

 

On 29-30 November 2019, DSW organized a two-day long career grooming workshop for UAP Graduates at UAP Auditorium. This high-end exclusive program was conducted by an international training organization named Workplace Skills Development Academy New Zealand along with 14 resource persons who are corporate leaders of respective domains. Director, DSW Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury was the Chief Guest in the opening ceremony while Mr. Ahmed Bari, Vice-President & Lead Trainer, WSDA New Zealand, and Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW were present. They motivated the participants to focus on the resource persons’ presentations, and ask where they want clarification, and get engaged in all the sessions.

In the 1st session, Mr. Bari talked about Emotional intelligence: why it’s important for success! Mr. Sazzad Hassan, Trainer, WSDA New Zealand, demonstrated the art of greetings and self-introduction to the participants. In a panel discussion on career planning, Mr. Saalim Siddiqui, Director, Sharp Securities Ltd.; Mr. Mohammad Abdullah Saif, Director, The Structural Engineers Ltd.; and Ms. Jinat Rehana, GM, Excellent Corporation discussed on different basics of planning a career with stretching on soft-skill development through co-curricular activities, part-time job experience, internship and so on. They also shared their life stories to inspire the participants on smart thinking, proper planning, and execution of those planning.

Mr. Eng. Arifur Rahman, CEO, Assurance Development Limited, Mr. Muhammad Kafis, Head of Operation, NCC Bank Ltd. discussed Corporate Networking with a focus on salary vs. workload in the 2nd plenary session. Mr. Kazi Shah Muzakker Hoque, Director, Shah Group, and Ms. Sufia Akter, FVP, Corporate Banking, The City Bank Ltd. talked about the required skills which are wanted by the employers. Mr. M M Ferdous, Group HR Head, Golden harvest, and Mr. Ziaul Karim, Head of HR, New Zealand Dairy Products BD Ltd. showed them the ways to get ready for the corporate world. In the closing ceremony, Md. Khurshed Alam, DMD, NRB Bank Limited was the chief guest
while Dr. Mohammad Tareque Aziz, Head, DBA, UAP was present as the special guest. From the art of greeting, self-introduction, CV writing, Interview related guidelines to the value of time, emotional intelligence, corporate networking, these workshops covered many required elements for the job market. 180 registered students of UAP participated in this two-day long workshop. This program was based on a formal contract between UAP and WSDA New Zealand who will carry out two more day-long classroom-based workshops for all the registered participants. The certificate giving ceremony will be held each day at the end of the workshop

Idea Competition: "IDEA-Season 1" by  Entrepreneurship & Career Development Club

University of Asia Pacific (UAP) held "IDEA-Season 1", a multidisciplinary idea competition organized by the Entrepreneurship & Career Development Club, UAP, on 18 July 2019. The prize money and gifts for the winners were sponsored by Super Star Group while Nescafe rendered the service as a beverage partner. Initially, 38 projects were submitted by the students from different departments of UAP, among those 18 ideas were selected for the final showcase. National Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC, UAP, inaugurated the project exhibition. The daylong event ended at the UAP auditorium with a prize-giving ceremony with the presence of Mr. Monzoor Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman, UAP, Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro VC, UAP, Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, Directorate of Students' Welfare, Head of the departments, and other faculty members. Seven faculty judges from different departments of UAP evaluated the projects and creative efforts of the students. The judges were Dr. Md. Ashraful Alam, Associate Professor, CE, Md. Masrur Mamun Hossain, Assistant Professor, Arch, Sayeeda Fahmee Chowdhury, Assistant Professor, Pharm, Dr. Nasima Begum, Assistant Professor, CSE. Md. Sazzadur Rahman, Assistant Professor, EEE, Mohammad Rakiv, Assistant Professor, DBA, and Md. Abu Shahid Abdullah, Lecturer, English.

 

A project titled "An Advantageous App System for Thalassemia Patients," developed by 4 students from the Department of Pharmacy & EEE won the 3rd prize. The 2nd position was awarded to "Enhancing Efficiency of Road Network by Signal Timing Optimization," a project from the Department of Civil Engineering, led by Dr. Farzana Rahman, Professor & Head, CE. A project named "Microbial Fuel Constructed Wetland for Waste Water Treatment" supervised by Dr. Tanveer Ferdous Saeed, Professor, CE, was announced as the winning team in this very first Idea Competition held at UAP. To uphold the continuation of the event, the second season will be announced very soon. The event ended with a vote of thanks by the club adviser Ms. Sisili Rahman, Lecturer, Department of Business Administration, UAP, for the collaboration among the departments that enhanced the magnitude of the competition.

 

Bangladesh Youth Symposium 2019

Youth School for Social Entrepreneurs (YSSE), a youth-led non-profit organization, organized “Bangladesh Youth Symposium 2019” in association with the Directorate of Students’ Welfare, the University of Asia Pacific at the UAP auditorium on 27th June 2019. Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor, Primeasia University, and Mr. Ashfaq Zaman, Mentor of Queen’s Young Leaders addressed the session as special guests respectively.

 

Khondaker A. Mamun, Ph.D., Professor, United International University and Founder and Chairman of CMED Health; Md. Tajdin Hassan, Head of Marketing, The Daily Star; and Md. Sohan Haidar, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Smartifier Academy were resource persons in the symposium. The speakers at the occasion discussed with the future entrepreneurs and inspired them to work in the social entrepreneurship area. Later, an “Elevator Pitch Challenge” was arranged where 12 selected business-ideas were presented. In the elevator pitch round, Sanjida Ahmed, Jahangirnagar University, Md. Shariful Alam Rana, Department of EEE, UAP, and Md. Suhas Khan Anik, ACCA were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively. UAP Entrepreneurship and Career Development Club was the club partner of the event.

 

Female Entrepreneurs Fest

The Entrepreneurship and Career Development Club of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) hosted an exhibition titled "Passion to Action: Female Entrepreneurs' Fest" at UAP Plaza on Jan 21, 2019.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof  Dr. MR Kabir inaugurated the daylong event as chief guest while DSW Director & UAP Treasurer Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Business Administration Department Head Prof Dr. Mohammed Tareque Aziz, Sisili Rahman, Shayla Binta Sayeed, Ahmed Tausif Saad, were present among others.
The exhibition hosted a group of female entrepreneurs named "Female Entrepreneurs of Bangladesh" who showcased their products and provided the students of UAP an opportunity to get to know the prospects and challenges of their startups. The exhibition included a wide range of products from spices, handmade soaps, crafts, to locally produced handloom sarees and dresses.

 

Workshop on Communication and Presentation Skills

On January 21, 2019, the Career Services Office under Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), UAP, and Renaissance Consultants Ltd. jointly organized a two-hour-long workshop on Communication and Presentation Skills.Ms. Mohsina Ashraf, CEO and Lead Consultant Triskele Ever conducted the workshop. In her lecture, Ms. Ashraf presented different visual contents and data to understand and develop effective communication and presentation skills.

Career Services Office conducts a series of seminars and workshops under an MOU signed with Renaissance Consultants Ltd. Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, Career Services Office, DSW ended the workshop with a vote of thanks.

 

Seminar on “Careers in IT & IT enabled Services Industry”

Career Services Office under DSW, UAP, and Renaissance Consultants Ltd. jointly organized a two-hour long seminar on “Careers in IT & ITES Industry” on 16 January 2019. Mr. Md. Imdad Hossain Khan, Managing Director, CodenCloud, and Mr. A Naser Ahmed, Former Head of IT, Edward M. Kennedy Center conducted the seminar. The resource persons shared the expanding opportunities in Information Technology and Information Technology enabled Services Industry. They facilitated the participants to identify the recent trends and understand the future possibilities of the IT and ITES industries in Bangladesh. The resource persons said that finding an appropriate mentor may help to succeed in professional life, especially in the IT-related sector. They shared how to choose a career in the IT and ITES sectors based on passion, relevant knowledge, appropriate training, and suitable mentorship.

Uddokta Summit-2018 

  • 7-8 December 2018

A 2-daylong Uddokta Summit-2018, jointly organized by the University of Asia Pacific and Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) was held on the university campus from 7-8 December 2018. The objective of the summit was to build awareness and create new ideas of entrepreneurship among Bangladeshi youth. National Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Honourable Vice-Chancellor of UAP inaugurated the event as the Chief Guest. While addressing the audience, he said that Bangladesh economy had reached a sustainable stage of development and the information-technology related products and services could help accelerate progress. Professor Choudhury also said, “We have to create skilled manpower; we need to create jobs for the growing population. New ideas and innovations and creative entrepreneurship could be key factors in the country’s growth.”

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Kazi Aminul Islam said that there are around 25 lakh unemployed youth in Bangladesh who might be looking for jobs but they were unaware of the possibilities of creating new jobs as an entrepreneur.

Dr. Mohammed Alauddin, Sr. Vice-Chairman, Member, Board of Trustees (BOT) of UAP attended the summit as a Special Guest. Mr. Anhar Ahmed Chowdhury, Member, BOT, facilitated an interesting “Leadership Workshop.” Ms. Tashmeem Shayera Moyeen, Member, Board of Trustees, UAP attended a session titled “Exploring Personal Care Zone” where she suggested different ways to eradicate gender-related sigma from society. Mr. Alamzeb Farjad Ahmed, Member, BOT, UAP along with Mr. G. Sumdany Don, a renowned Corporate facilitated a workshop titled “Finding Entrepreneurial Ability of the Students.”

Air Cdre (Retd.) Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury, Director, DSW chaired the inaugural session and coordinated the events. Among others, the summit was also attended by Mr. Munir Hasan, Coordinator, Youth Programme, Prothom Alo and Founder, BdOSN; Mr. Mominul Islam, Managing Director & CEO, IPDC Finance Ltd.; Mr. Mostafizur Rahman, Project Director, a2i, Government of Bangladesh.The two-day event comprised of 10 sessions, 4 workshops, 45 stalls to exhibit the products and services. Besides a large number of UAP students and faculty from various departments, the summit attracted over 500 potential entrepreneurs from across the country.

Ms. Parveen S. Huda, Managing Director and Lead Consultant, Renaissance Consultants Ltd., and Ms. Mohsina Ashraf, CEO and Lead Consultant Triskele Ever conducted the workshop. It aided the participants to analytically categorize their key abilities, focus on achieving their career goals by enhancing self-esteem and building confidence. Spot Recruitment Camp at UAP

On November 7, 2018, Career Services Office under Directorate of Students’ Welfare, UAP organized a day-long Spot Recruitment Camp in association with The Show Motion Ltd at its Plaza. The title of the camp was “Build Your Career at Star Cineplex.” During the day-long camp, over 400 students from different departments submitted their CV to the hiring managers of Show Motion Ltd. who are employing against 60-80 vacancies. The organization is hiring both full-time and part-time employees who can work on a roster-basis. There was a good response from UAP students for these emerging job opportunities.

 

UAP signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BRAC IT Services Ltd.

University of Asia Pacific and BRAC IT Services Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 23 October 2018 in order to extend the opportunities of employment and internship, arrange career-related programs, and sharpen the required skill-set of the students of UAP for the job market.

Air Commodore Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.), Director, Directorate of Students’ Welfare, University of Asia Pacific, and Ms. Ismat Jahan, Senior Manager, HR, & Communications, BRAC IT Services Ltd. signed the MoU. Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of University of Asia Pacific graced the occasion with his presence. Among others, Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, Directorate of Students’ Welfare, University of Asia Pacific, and Mohammad Shahadat Kabir, Head of Project Management Office, and Md. Entrepreneur Speaker Series-Session II: Brewing A Dream- The Journey of A Start-Up

Entrepreneurship and Career Development Club (ECDC) of University of Asia Pacific (UAP), under the Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), organized a seminar titled ‘Brewing A Dream: The Journey of A Start-Up’ on 09 May 2018. The seminar was conducted by Ms. Syeda Nafisa Reza Borsha, a young entrepreneur, Chairman, and CFO of Groupdot. Ms. Borsha shared her journey to become an entrepreneur and encouraged the students to develop the required preparation, mind-set, and skill-set before starting their own start-up.

Students, especially who dream to be an entrepreneur, participated in the session. Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.), Director, DSW concluded the program with a vote of thanks. Among others, Dr. Mahbubul Haque, Director IQAC; Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW; and Ms. Sisili Rahman, Adviser of ECDC were present at the event. There was a Q&A part at the end of the session where students came up with their queries about the challenges of being an entrepreneur.

Workshop on Career Planning & Effective CV Writing

  • 18 April 2018

On 18 April 2018, the Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Asia Pacific, in association with NRB Jobs, organized a two-hour-long workshop on “Career Planning and Effective CV Writing.” Md. Tarek Khan, Asst Dir, DSW, while welcoming the resource person and guests emphasized the need for effective CV writing as well as choose the right career path and prepare accordingly. He informed the students that the DSW Career Service wants to build up students’ future marketability by arranging career-related lectures by professional experts.

 

Mr. S. M. Waliullah Hossain, an experienced organizational and management professional conducted the workshop. He shared his expert knowledge in the Human Resources sector to create career-related awareness among the participants. Mr. Hossain focused on the key points of choosing the right career. In the Q&A session, the students raised various queries regarding choosing the right career and how to prepare a CV which reflects an individual the best.

Workshop on Career Planning

The Directorate of Students’ Welfare at The University of Asia Pacific (UAP) organized a three-hour-long Workshop on Career Planning on 28 November 2017. Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.) Director, Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), UAP while welcoming the guest speakers, emphasized the importance of the workshop in developing a career plan for the students. Ms. Parveen S. Huda, Managing Director and Lead Consultant, Renaissance Consultants Ltd., and Ms. Mohsina Ashraf, CEO and Lead Consultant Triskele Ever conducted the workshop. It was an interactive session that helped students first of all to focus on their vision and then how to achieve the objective in a planned and well-organized way. Workshop on News Media and Career in News Presentation

Entrepreneurship and Career Development Club (ECDC)under the direction of Directorate of Student Welfare (DSW)at UAP organized a workshop titled “Workshop on News Media and Career in News Presentation” on 9 November 2017. Ten renowned personalities from the news media industry including Mr. Munirul Islam, Senior News Presenter, Ntv, Mr. Mahamudul Haq, Senior News Presenter, and Broadcast Journalist, ATN News, and Executive Producer, Mr. Rana Islam, Deepto TV, and others were the resource persons in the workshop. The resource persons delivered the basics of news presentation, the audition criteria, and showed the scope of building a career in the news media.

Students from different departments participated in the workshop. The program was attended by among others, Ms. Sisili Rahman, Lecturer, and Mr. Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW. Ms. Sadia Tangem, Assistant Professor, Department of Business Administration and Adviser, Entrepreneurship and Career Development Club (ECDC), University of Asia Pacific coordinated the whole program.

 

Workshop on “ITEE Pre-Mock Test”

The Career Development Club (CDC) of Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of University of Asia Pacific (UAP), JICA and KJS Company, Japan have jointly arranged a workshop on “Information Technology Engineers Examination Pre-Mock-Test” held at UAP City Campus on September19, 2017. Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor, UAP has addressed the program as Chief Guest. Prof. Ito Kenichi, Miyazaki University, Prof. Shiraishi Fumie, Miyazaki University, Mr. Ota-san (JICA Dhaka office), and Mr. Ahmed Sarowar, Operational Manager, Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) were present at the workshop as special guests. All the full-time faculty members of the Dept. of CSE were present at the workshop. The ITEE Exam will help the CSE students’ to make their bright careers either in our country or in Japanese IT companies.

The seminar, conducted by Ayman Sadiq founder of, 10-minute school taught students how to write a proper CV, give an amazing presentation, and the etiquettes which should be followed during an interview. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, was present as chief guest. Faculties and students took part in the enlightening session which was concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sadia Tangem, convener of the club.

 

Civil Engineering Career Fest at UAP

The Department of Civil Engineering (CE), UAP, organized its 1st Career Fest held at UAP Plaza on August 05, 2017. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mizanur Rahaman, Head, CE, delivered his welcome speech while Ms. Hasin Jahan, Country Director, Practical Action, Bangladesh addressed the program as Special Guest.Dr. Md. Shariful Islam, a member of BoT, UAP, inaugurated the day-long festival. A number of companies including BTI, SEL, IWA, BBS, Sheltech, SMEC, CEGIS, Lafarge Holcim, ERA, CNRS, BSRM, Crown cement, Water aid participated in the seminar and introduced their activities in different sectors. Each company has conducted a quiz competition. In the afternoon, the UAP Alumni Association met the participating students and shared their professional views & perspectives with the students.

In the closing session, Mr. Abu Mahammed Masud, CEO & Managing Director, ICON Engineering services ltd and Ms. Fahima Shahadat, Head of Infrastructure & Technical Services, Lafarge Holcim Bangladesh limited, distributed the prizes among the winners. Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, attended and addressed the closing session as Chief Guest.10 stalls were displayed in the common room. IEEE UAP Student Branch Organized Seminar on 'Data Center Technology & Career Counselling'

IEEE UAP Student Branch organized a two-hour long seminar on 'Seminar on Data Center Technology and Career Counseling' on May 3, 2017 (Wednesday) which was presented by Khan Muhammad Fuad Bin Enayet, Assistant General Manager, Fiber@Home Limited, Bangladesh. The Seminar was attended by students including IEEE student members as well as UAP faculties. Various aspects of the data center were elaborately discussed along with the scope of career (both in-home and abroad) in this field.

IEEE UAP Student branch was formed in November 2015 and since then it has been organizing several events for the benefit of the students. At present, the student branch has 34 members from the Department of EEE and CSE.

UAP-Chakri.com Career Fair

A two-day long career fair was held at the permanent campus of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on April 29-30, 2016. Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor, UAP inaugurated the fair as the Chief Guest. Prof. Abdul Matin Patwari, Professor Emeritus, UAP, Mr. Qayum Reza Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, UAP, Prof. M. R. Kabir, Pro VC, UAP and Mr. Anisul Hoque, Associate Editor, Prothom Alo were present as Special Guests.

On the first day of the fair, two seminars titled "Opportunity in Call Centre and BPO Industries" and "CV Writing and facing interview: Do's and Don'ts" were held. Eminent specialists on the subjects conducted the seminars that were attended by a large number of students from all across the country. 18 different organizations primarily Software marketing, Multinational Companies, NGO's set-up their stalls, offering attractive jobs for young students.

The seminars on the second day were on "Opportunities in the ICT industry for non-ICT Graduates" and "Local and Global Opportunities in the ICT industry". These seminars were also largely attended and well-conducted. UAP and Chakri.com jointly organized the Career Fair and the fair concluded with a prize-giving ceremony. Mr. Qayum Reza Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, UAP chaired the closing ceremony while Prof. Mohammad Kaykobad of BUET and Mrs. Luna Shamsuddoha, Chairman of Dohatec distributed prize among the winners as special guests on the occasion.

 

Workshop on Team Building and Leadership

The Directorate of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Asia Pacific, in association with Chakri.com organized a two-hour-long workshop on Team Building and Leadership on 27 December at UAP.

Mr. Masud Rayhan, Corporate Trainer, Performance Enhanced Catalyst conducted the workshop. He motivated the participants to brush up on their soft-skills, especially team building and leadership skills which will allow them to connect with people more effectively.

Among others, Air Cdre Ishfaq Ilahi Choudhury (Retd.), Director, Md. Tarek Khan, Assistant Director, DSW, UAP, and representatives from Chakri.com were present during the session. DSW will conduct a series of workshops and career fairs under an MOU signed with Chakri.com.

 

Seminar on "Career Opportunities in BPO" at UAP CSE Department

A seminar on "Career Opportunities in BPO" was held at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on 22 November 2015. ICT Division, Government of Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Association of Call Center and Outsourcing (BACCO) have jointly organized the seminar to promote job opportunities in the BPO sector.

Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, UAP addressed the seminar as Chief Guest while Mr. Towhid Hossain, Secretary-General, BACCO, Munir Hasan, General Secretary of Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee, Mr. Misha Ali, Director of Bikroy.com and Mr. Solaiman Shukhon, Head of Business of Aamra smart solutions attended the program as distinguished guests. The seminar was ended followed by a Quiz completion and prize-giving ceremony.

 

Grameen Phone Ltd. Campus Recruitment Program @DBA, UAP

A two-day Campus Recruitment Program for the students of different departments of UAP was organized by the Business Administration Communication Club (BACC), DBA. A 10-member delegation from Grameen Phone Ltd., the much-coveted corporate destination of the job seekers, graced the occasion held on November 1 and 2, 2015. The event, the first of its kind at UAP, attracted hundreds of students from its various departments to display their employability skills before the experienced managers and the executives of the renowned company.
In his welcome speech, Professor Shahriyar Anam, Head, DBA, spoke of the UAP's constant endeavor in forging a strong linkage between the industry and the university so that students can derive experiential learning beyond the theoretical aspects of classroom teaching. Such an event, hoped Prof. Anam, would go a long way in bridging the gap between the two, and in opening a world of opportunity for the students to get accustomed to the vibes and the norms of the corporate culture. He appreciated the GP team for having taken their time to come over to the DBA campus for this purpose and praised the BACC club for organizing such an event for the benefit of the UAP students. On his part, Mr. Monjurul Karim, Service Manager, Inbound Contact Center, talked about the brand image of Grameen Phone Ltd., and the value the graduates attach to work in this reputed organization. He also appreciated the efforts of the organizers for having arranged such a program and the hospitality extended to them from the DBA, UAP.

It is to be mentioned that a total of forty students got recruited for the position of customer care managers with the entry-level salary being Tk. Fifteen thousand plus some fringe benefits. Starting at 11 a.m., the recruitment process continued until 4 p.m. each day. At the end of the two-day program, the delegation had a cordial discussion with the DBA faculty members and expressed their desire to regularly arrange such events in the times ahead. Ms. Sadia Tangem, Assistant Professor, and the convener of BACC, DBA was instrumental, first, in securing the contacts of GP authority and then monitored the entire program till the very end. 

 

Symposium on 'Entrepreneurship in Globalizing Economy'

In this era of globalization, entrepreneurs have a major role to play in shaping the economy of a country, particularly where demographic changes in the composition of its labor force are so conspicuous, and the demands of the consumers are so continually shifting. For business graduates, this assumes a special significance as they need to develop the much needed entrepreneurial skills to cope with the evolving market conditions. With this view in mind, the Career Development Club (CDC) at the Department of Business Administration (DBA), organized a symposium on 'Entrepreneurship in Globalizing Economy' at the seminar room of the department on June 22, 2015.

Mr. Md. Tajul Islam, Member of Parliament, and Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Power, Energy, Mineral, and Planning Resources and Director of Jamuna Bank Ltd. attended the program as the chief guest. Prof. Dr. M. R. Kabir, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, UAP chaired the symposium while the special guest, Mr. Jerry Nicholson, Director of Tinder Capital, moderated the program. Prof. Shahriyar Anam, Head, DBA, gave the welcome speech on the occasion. In his speech, Mr. Tajul Islam asked the students not to worry about the money needed to start a business; rather they should nurture and develop entrepreneurial talents in themselves to face future challenges. He shared his own humble beginnings as an entrepreneur where he started his business with only taka 500 in his pocket and has now become successful in his ventures.

Mr. Jerry Nicholson encouraged the students to dream higher, to craft innovative business ideas, and advised them to proceed boldly with their dreams. He also mentioned how the government might help them in this regard and shared his experiences in his 10-year stay in Bangladesh. In his speech, Prof. Kabir expressed his ideas about the role of young entrepreneurs in this global economy. He also echoed the ideas of the Noble Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus that the graduates must not render themselves into job-seekers; rather they should be job-givers. Prof. Anam, in his welcome speech, touched upon the lives of the chief and the special guests of the occasion and thanked the CDC for arranging such a symposium that would surely help to kindle the entrepreneurial spirit in the minds of the budding entrepreneurs of the department.

Workshop on Personal Development Awareness Session at UAP DBA Department

The Business Administration Communication Club (BACC) and Career Development Club (CDC) in collaboration with Workplace Skill Development Academy (WSDA), New Zealand organized a 3-hour long workshop titled "Personal Development Awareness Session" was held in the seminar room of the Department on 14 June 2015.
 
Around 45 students from different Departments of UAP took part in the workshop. Prof. Shahriyar Anam, Head of Department of Business Administration inaugurated the program. Mr. Ahmed Wasimul Bari, VP, and Dean of WSDA and Ms. Rose McNaught were the Guest speakers.
 
The workshop was conducted in three sessions: How to Learn Fast, Cycle of Success, and How to Control Your Life for Success. From the workshop, students gained knowledge to improve their interpersonal skills and appreciated the worth of their valuable time.

 

Symposium on Career Development for Future World

A symposium on development for the future world organized by Career Development Club, Department of Business Administration (DBA) of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) was held in the department today (May 22, 2014). Robert Gibson, British High Commissioner in Bangladesh attended the program as chief guest while Bibi Russell, International Model, and Fashion Designer as special guest and head, DBA Professor Shahriyar Anam attended.

The symposium is chaired by Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, VC UAP, and Tim Steel, Marketing and Communications Specialist conducted the symposium as moderator. Professor JR Choudhury expressed his dream to see UAP in global standard, as a reputed university in Bangladesh. He also said that the world's renowned magazines say positive things about Bangladesh. 

Addressing quantity is not the quality Mr. Gibson said the students to concentrate on lifelong learning and concentrate on newer things for a change. The starting of your attempt will start only when you will be said not possible, he added. Bibi Russell encouraged the students in dreaming about future career and advised to uphold the heritage of Bangladesh. She stressed that socio-economic development should be the priority of any study. PUAP faculties, students, journalists, and entrepreneurs attended the program.
